Retail sales of heavy-duty trucks rose 2.5% in October compared with October 2009, led by gains by Volvo Trucks North America and Daimler Truck North America.
Truck manufacturers and their dealers sold 8,714 Class 8s in October, compared with 8,500 in October 2009. For the first 10 months of this year, sales were up 15.3% over the same period in 2009.
Production of heavy trucks may reach 235,000 in 2011, up from an estimated 151,000 this year, according to Kenny Vieth, partner at market forecaster ACT Research Co., Bloomberg news said.
